There is a problem with health in the US. We are well aware of it. The insurance driven model of health care has done nothing but get people sicker and sicker and is not improving.
Health insurance is just like any other insurance: protection against a catastrophic event. You have fire insurance to protect against fire, flood insurance to protect against flood. If you live in a flood plain, your flood insurance is going to be higher than someone who lives on a mountain, because you have a higher chance of flood.
If you contract a disease, or are in a car accident, or sever a leg, insurance will be there to bail you out. Insurance does not exist to keep you healthy. Insurance doesn’t pay for your gym membership, it doesn’t pay for you to eat healthy food, and it doesn’t pay for you to manage a healthy lifestyle.
Someone with higher lifestyle risks is going to cost more to insure than someone who takes health as a personal responsibility.
Health is a personal responsibility.
What is health? Health is not how you look or how you feel. The top causes of death are heart disease and cancer, followed by medical care: wrong diagnosis, doctor error, treatment error and drugs. With heart disease, the first symptom is usually a heart attack! The first sign of cancer is usually cancer! People do not spontaneously develop heart disease and cancer. My mom felt fine before she was diagnosed with cancer as is the case with most cancer victims.
Modern medicine and screening procedures only catch these diseases when they have already progressed to the point you have serious heart trouble or a detectable growth of cancer cells.
At that time, yeah, insurance is usually necessary to seek medical care. Unfortunately relying on a company or a bureaucrat to manage your health is not the way to be healthy.
Insurance companies are a business. They are out to make money. That is why they put limits on what they pay for. They have algorithms in place to determine how many visits you are allotted for various maladies. Doctors must show insurance companies their care and procedures are medically necessary for the patient in order to be reimbursed. This significantly compromises a doctor’s ability to care for their patients, and is why most doctors are moving away from health insurance. Since most people have become dependent on doctors and insurance companies for their health, when “medical necessity” arises, usually their health has already significantly deteriorated.
When your body is sick enough to express symptoms of disease and dysfunction, it is the beginning of a downward spiral. Often you are medicated to reduce these symptoms, but the underlying cause still remains. Then when more symptoms arise due to worsening health or side effects of the medicine you are on, you get MORE medicine to cover up these subsequent symptoms.
Symptoms are like fire alarms in your body.
When you mask a symptom with drugs or surgery, it’s like taking the batteries out of your fire alarm. Your house is still going to burn down. Covering up the warning signs of disease is not the path to health, it is the path to death.
Health is not how you look or how you feel. It is how you function. What controls all the function in your body? Your brain and nervous system.
Your brain is the master control system. It was the first system that formed in a developing fetus. It coordinated the growth of your other organs, coordinated your growth into an adult, and is still responsible for all the healing, function and operation of your body. All of this is done automatically.
Your spine protects your spinal cord. It is nature’s protection for your most precious system. Your brain talks to your body through your spinal cord and nerves. Every cell, organ and tissue needs a clear channel of communication with the brain to function properly.
When your spine is out of alignment, it will pinch the delicate nerves exiting your spine that supply part of your body with the brain body connection we need to live and thrive. This nervous system interference caused by misaligned vertebrae is what chiropractors refer to as a subluxation. It only takes the weight of a dime, not much pressure at all, to reduce a nerve’s function by 60-70%. Think about all the nerves supplying your skin, your muscles, your organs. Your heart, liver, prostate, uterus. All of these tissues need to communicate with your brain to properly heal, function and operate. When your body is not adequately communicating with your body, it simply can’t function properly.
Often you cannot feel when your nerves are being pinched, because only 10% of your nerves actually carry sensory or pain information. Only chiropractors are trained to find subluxations. Chiropractors ensure proper nervous system function through proper maintenance of your spine.
Therefore, if you want to function at your highest level, and be proactive rather than reactive with your health, it is imperative that you get your spine checked for subluxations regularly.
Our body didn’t come with a user manual. When you buy a car, you get a recommended maintenance schedule. Oil changes and tune ups are required if you want your car to last you a while. Your body too requires proper maintenance to operate at its peak!
