What You Can Expect in My Office
I Guarantee a Great Experience – Or Your Money Back!
When you arrive you will promptly be greeted and offered a beverage of your choice to enjoy while you complete my brief health questionnaire.
After you finish completing my questionnaire I will review it with you while we discuss your health challenges.
After I have a clear understanding of your current health and what your goals are, I will conduct a quick spine scan and posture assessment.
As the main goal in my office is to restore and maximize the proper function of your body, this process starts with correcting the spine. A healthy body depends on a healthy nervous system, and you can’t have a healthy nervous system without a healthy spine.
Is Your Spine Healthy?
The spine scan and posture screen give me and you a picture and objective data on your spine’s condition. See the examples below:
This example scan clearly shows a lot of muscle activity in the lower and mid back. This type of activity indicates muscle spasm and “bracing,” muscle tightness due to pain.
When the muscles are this tight it indicates poor spine alignment and function.
Imagine your spine is an antenna. When an antenna is standing straight up, the guy wires that support it will have even pull on the antenna to keep it standing.
When your spine is straight and in alignment, the muscles that support your spine will have even resting muscle tension.
When the antenna is crooked, naturally some muscles will be tighter, and some will be stretched. Now, in this scenario, the stretched muscles will also tighten up as a reflex, causing tightness and spasm all over.
Getting You Out of Pain Fast
If you are having back pain, it means something is very wrong in your spine. Three main things in the body cause pain, stuck joints, spasmed muscles, and pinched nerves. If you are experiencing pain, chances are it is because of a pinched nerve, muscle spasm, or poorly moving joints in your spine.
Now your pain may come and go, after all your body is a self healing organism. However, if the overall function and health of your spine isn’t corrected, the pain will just keep coming back. Also, chronically tight muscles will clamp down on the spine, prevent proper range of motion and disc health, which will have very deleterious effects down the road including disc degeneration, arthritis, bone spurs, stenosis and more.
My first objective is to get you out of pain fast. Everybody’s case varies, however I usually recommend an aggressive treatment protocol of approximately 12 visits over a the course of a month. I will also give you some information on what to do at home to speed up your recovery during this time.
When I adjust you, I look for the joints that aren’t moving properly in your spine, and put a quick force into the joint, known as a chiropractic adjustment, to free the joint and get it moving in its proper range of motion. This creates a reflex in the brain, and forces the brain to relax the muscles surrounding the joint.
Every adjustment builds on the last one to get you progressively better and better. A series of adjustments close together will re-train your muscles to maintain the correct posture and function. However just because you are feeling better doesn’t mean you have really improved.
Correcting Your Spine
Pain is the last thing to show up and the first thing to go away. Most people who have a flare up have them every few months. This is because they didn’t actually correct the underlying problem.
After this “Rapid Relief” phase is where the actual healing takes place. We call this stage “Structural Correction” where I combine corrective exercises with adjustments over a one to two month period to restore muscle and postural balance to your body.
This is where you start to experience the real benefits of chiropractic. This is the same type of care I went through, and the benefits I received during this phase changed my life. Chiropractic had such a profound effect on me that I decided to pursue it as a career. My athleticism improved in leaps and bounds and my sense of well being went up considerably. I started feeling great all the time, my posture improved, I became more confident, felt better about myself, and more.
Chiropractic’s huge benefit isn’t just in getting you out of pain, it’s in restoring the function of your spine and nervous system and thereby your entire body. As you go through the corrective phase, you may experience many of your other health problems resolve on their own. Many people report their digestive issues, asthma, anxiety and many other conditions go away when their nervous system starts working at 100%.
After your spine has stabilized and is holding the proper alignment, it’s smart to get it checked and adjusted periodically, to keep your spine and nervous system healthy and working at their peak.
After all, everything in your body is controlled by the nervous system, and when it’s working at 100%, YOU are working at 100%.
